Well, after all the hype we started the trip on June 16. We had wanted to leave earlier, but fabrication delays on the cabinets held us up a little. Dave brought the truck up to the Washington, D.C. area in the afternoon and met Stacie at her parent’s house – she had spent father’s day there. After dinner Stacie’s parents offered to christen the truck with champagne, but Dave was afraid they’d hurt the bumper. Stacie bid farewell to Clio and we hit the road. We drove for a few hours crossing into Maryland and then Pennsylvania where we spent the night in Breezewood.
June 17 -The next morning we started on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and hit West Virginia and Ohio. While in Ohio we dropped down to Cincinnati and visited with Dennis and Carol, friends of Dave’s from when he used to do theme park work. From Cincinnati we headed west into Indiana and at Indianapolis turned north, heading for Chicago. At Chicago we turned west and stopped for the night in Rockford, Illinois.
June 18 – From Rockford we headed northwest into Wisconsin. Near Wisconsin Dells we had to stop and take a few pictures – Stacie saw her moose! Just north of the Dells, we encountered some interesting rock outcrops. We then headed west into Minnesota and after a few hours crossed into North Dakota. We passed within an hour of New Rockford, Dave’s father’s hometown, but didn’t have time for a side trip. We drove as far as Bismarck and called it a day.
